نگاهی به لغات کاملا ضروری آیلتس

cambridge vocabuary for IELTSدستیابی و تمرین مداوم لغات ضروری در امتحان آیلتس یکی از رویکرد های مثبت در موفقیت در این آزمون است. اما شناسایی بهترین منابع در میان ده ها یا شاید صدها عنوان کتاب کار ساده ای نیست. در زیر به بررسی یکی از این کتاب ها میپردازیم و گروهی از واژگان منتخب از این کتاب را بهمراه مثال بررسی میکنیم. به ویژه زبان آموزانی که هدف آن ها نمره بالای 7 در آیلتس و نمره بالای 100 در تافل است بدون شک باید خواندن این منبع و منابعی از این دست را در دستور کار داشته باشند.

این گروه از واژگان استاندارد برای آموختن لغات تازه و گسترش دامنه لغات زبان آموزان در دوره های آمادگی آزمون های آیلتس و تافل و برای نمره های بالای 7/100 گزینش شده است. منبع این مجموعه ها کتاب Cambridge Vocabulary for IELTS Advanced انتشارات کمبریج می باشد که این لغات را ضروری برای نمره 6.5 و بالاتر آیلتس معرفی کرده است. با اینهمه تعریف(Definition) لغات و مثال(Example) های آورده شده کپی شده از دیگر سایت ها و یا فرهنگ واژگان نمیباشد و تماما از سوی مهندس ابوالقاسمی و البته با بررسی و مطابقت با فرهنگ واژگان Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English نوشته شده است.

1. Apprehensive

Definition: to be worried about the things that you are going to do or is going to happen

Example: I was a bit apprehensive about my brother’s visit.

2. Assertive

Definition: =confident/sure or yourself

Example: A great leader always have a very assertive personality

 

3. Clumsy

Definition: doing things or moving in a careless way in a way that you drop things etc.  = accident prone = awkward

Example: That cheap restaurant downtown was full of clumsy waiters.

Example: He made a clumsy attempt to catch the ball.

4. Cynical

Definition: Tending not to believe that people have good and honest reasons for doing things

Example: He was an old critic with a cynical view of life

5. Eccentric

Definition: Having unusual and different behavior compare to other people.

Example: She is an eccentric old woman who keeps thirty dolls at home.

Example: His eccentric behavior cost him his job.

6. Egotistical

Definition: =very selfish/self-centered /arrogant

Example: He was just another young arrogant and egotistical soccer player.

7. Gullible

Definition: Easily believe what other people say and is easily tricked

Example: We met a few gullible girls at the first year of university.

Example: She treated me as if I were a gullible.

8. Bubbly

Definition: being always happy, cheerful and energetic

Example: The girl next door in dorm had a bubbly personality.

9. Inconsiderate

Definition: Not caring about other  people = thoughtless = tactless = insensitive

Example: It was very inconsiderate of you not to check the flight number.

Example: Streets of a mega city is always full of inconsiderate motorists.

10. Indecisive

Definition: Not be able to make clear choices

Example: We apologize for being so indecisive, so can I let you know tomorrow?

Example: A weak and indecisive team leader is unlikely to achieve anything.

11. self-assured

Definition: relaxed, confident and calm about what you are doing = confident= assertive = extrovert

Example: A self-assured teacher should be able to lecture without so many notes.

12. self-absorbed

Definition: only be interested in yourself and what has to do with you

Example: A multimillionaire businessman was too self-absorbed to notice his wife’s depression.

Example: A teenage girl usually tends to be self-absorbed.

13. self-centered

Definition: paying a lot of attention to yourself = selfish

Example: Rosa was very attractive and well-dressed but extremely self-centered.

14. self-congratulatory

Definition: a behavior that shows in an annoying way that you believe you have done something admirably.

Example: He has an unpleasant mood of self-congratulation.

Example: She sat there, with a self-congratulatory smile.

15. self-deprecating

Definition: trying to make your achievements seems less important = modest = humble = unpretentious

Example: She was a lovely intelligent lady with a self-deprecating manner.

Example: What I loved about him most was his self-deprecating humor.

16. self-important

Definition: Having a manner that shows you think you are better or more important than other people.

Example: She was a young waitress who hated self-important customers.

Example: His father was a rich self-important merchant.

17. well-adjusted

Definition: emotionally healthy and be able to cope with challenges of life.

Example: the nursery was full of well-adjusted energetic children.

 

18. well-bred

Definition: someone who behaves politely.

Example: the teacher was a well-bred young woman with nice manners.

19. well-brought-up

Definition: a child that has been thought to be polite and have manners.

Example: a well-brought-up lady should never react this way

20. tactful

Definition: not likely to upset or embarrass other people.

Example: I should find a tactful way to persuade her not to call me.

Example: Her parents tried to be tactful about her new boyfriend.
