The following bar chart illustrates the percentages of male and female citizens in   Australia who were regularly involved in physical activity in 2010.

Overall, roughly 40 to over 50 percent of population did regular sport, with females   having more participation in almost  all age groups except the youngest one(15-24).

Over half of the youngest Australian women (15 to 24 years old) did regular physical   activity in 2010, while the same figure for males was just under 48 percent. More aged women, 24 to 34 and 35 to 44 years old, showed less interest in sports with about 40 percent of participation, but at the same time, the participation of their male counterparts surged markedly to 52 percent.

Female Australian of older age groups (45 to 54 and 55 to 64 years old) continued to be committed to physical activities, and both age groups saw over 53 percent of participation. The percentage of participation of male Australian of these two age groups started to recover, with 43 and 45 percent doing sports. Almost 46 percent of the eldest of all people in this country, elder than 65 years old, continued doing regular physical activity regardless of the gender.

Traveling is a unique and joyful experience for many people. While international tourism today has many benefits both for government and citizens, it may pose some threats too. This essay will discuss these two points. (35 words)

Host countries can gain many benefits from travelers. First of all, the money that tourists spend in host countries help their economy enormously. Travelling abroad is always expensive because tourists have to spend for tickets, hotels and food among other things. All this money improves the economy of the host country which are mostly developing countries in Asia and Africa. Secondly, tourists can contribute to the culture in their destination. This happens when they introduce new ways of thinking, foods and customs because travelers are always welcomed when they arrive and what they discuss may sound appealing to native people of host country. (103 words)

Potential threats of tourism industry, however, should not be overlooked. First of all, natural resources of the host countries will be under considerable pressure, especially in more remote areas. Since normally these resources are used by a rather scattered population, they can be replenished easily but when tourists arrive, they usually overuse the resources like water and fuel and put enormous stress on them. Secondly, native people may choose to adopt behavior and ideas from travelers that are in sharp contrast to their own culture. This may create some social issues in the host country and dealing with them would not be an easy task for the society. (105 words)

In conclusion, while the tourist destinations gain benefits from receiving tourists from around the globe, this lucrative market may create long-term problems that are not easy to deal with. (29 words)

 Cambridge IELTS 12 Academic Test 3 Sample Answer

The chart illustrates six categories based on the frequency of fast food consumption in USA in three different years over a decade between 2003 and 2013.

It is most common for American people to consume fast food once a week or once or twice a month since about 30 percent of the population is reported to have these habits in 2003. In 2013, however, this number decreased by about 5 percent for the former and increased by a similar amount for the latter.

In 2003, those who had fast food several times a week and few time annually constituted slightly over and under 15 percent of the population respectively. A decade later in 2013, the first group seems to had increased by a few percent before falling closer to 15 percent and the second group, despite showing a few percent of increase, finally stabilized at its starting level. Only a negligible percentage (almost 5 percent) of Americans ate either everyday or never and both showed a downward trend to form an even smaller percentage.

Overall, eating every week and every month seems to be the most popular eating habits for fast foods during this period and it appears in all categories there is a tendency to remain unchanged.

The graph shows the average weekly hours spent by schoolchildren on two different leisure activities at home over a period of nine years from 2000 to 2008.

Schoolchildren aged 10 to 11 years old spent less than 4 hours per week on computer in 2000. This number increased considerably over the next 4 years to 15 hours in 2004. At the beginning of the same period (2000), the time spent on watching TV was 21 hours per week, which remained the same over the nest three years. Next, it fell rapidly from 21 to 15 hours weekly in 2004.

Schoolchildren continued to spend more time on computer from 2004 and 2008 and the number reached a peak of just under 22 hours. At the same time despite a fluctuation between 2005 and 2006, the time spent on watching TV remained stable at the level of almost 15 hours per week.

Overall, While TV was much more popular than computer at the beginning of this period, it seems the time schoolchildren spent on them has reversed. (175 words)

The chart shows how much people in UK used telephones in three different categories: Local line, National and international fixed line and Mobiles between 1995 and 2002.

In 1995, Local calls were more than 70 billion minutes. This number increased about 20 billion minutes to 90  in 1998. It then started to decrease to a 70 billion minutes again.

At the beginning, the number of minutes spoken using National and international fixed line was less that 40 billion minutes. This number only increased gradually for the next 7 years to the highest amount, over 60 billion minutes, in 2002.

The number of minutes spent on the Mobile calls were only a few billion minutes in 1995 and this rather small number increased slightly to just under 10 billion minutes in 1999. Next it surged dramatically to a peak of 45 billion minutes at the end of the period in 2002.

Overall, it seems the big difference in popularity among all three categories at the beginning started to  diminish and at the final year all these categories had  very similar level of popularity. (182 Words)

The charts illustrates the total length of time spent on three groups of telephone calls in UK over a period of eight years from 1995 to 2002.

The most popular way of telephoning was local calls by fixed line in the beginning of the period in 1995 with slightly over 70 billion minutes, which started to rise gradually for the next four years to reach a peak of 90 million minutes, before falling back to the level of 1995.

Two other categories, National and International fixed lines and Mobiles, though quite different in popularity at the beginning(37 billion minutes for the former and only about 3 billion minutes for the latter), showed  an increase all over the period, peaking at over 60 and 45 billion minutes respectively in 2002. This growth for mobile calls was quite slow for the first few years but in 1998 it took off and surged to a peak of 45 billion minutes at the end of the period.

Overall, while Local fixed line was the only category that showed a decline in the number of minutes, two other ones only experienced growth. Also, despite the considerable differences in popularity, all three categories were quite popular at the end and had the least difference at the end. (211 Words)

Two maps depict a tropical island of a few hundreds square meters before and after the construction of some leisure facilities for tourists.

It appears that two sites for tourists accommodation have been built, which are connected to each other and to other areas with footpath. There is also a reception in the middle of the island, which is accessible by a vehicle track from the southern part, where a pier is constructed for some pleasure boats. The other significant change is a single restaurant in the northern part of the island that can be also accessed by vehicles. The beach in the western side can be used for swimming after this development. There are also some palm trees in the western and eastern regions of the island, which seem to be untouched by this change.

Overall, the development which appears to be more concentrated on the western side and the center, has dramatically changed the face of the island in a way that it can accommodate a few hundreds of tourists at the same time. (177 Words)

Two maps show the construction of facilities in an island. One map show the situation before and one map after the construction.

In the first map there is not much for possible tourists to enjoy except a swimming area in the left side of the island. How ever in the second map there is a restaurant in the middle of the island on the left close to a reception. There is a vehicle track for tourists who want to reach the reception or the restaurant. Other important change is the construction of several accommodation sites for tourists not far from the reception. Other important facilities for enjoyment of tourists are the boats for sailing in the southern side of the island,where a pier can be seen and a beach for swimming in the left side.

Overall, it seems the island is totally different after the construction of tourist facilities and especially the western and middle parts can be a good place for tourists to enjoy their stay. (167 Words)

Some argue that teenagers enjoy the happiest times mainly because they do not share responsibility in their homes and simply benefit from everything that is made available by their parents. Even if they share some responsibilities around the house or start a part time job, it will at the minimum level of responsibility with maximum financial and emotional support and hence, they will not be under the stress of juggling numerous tasks in a hectic lifestyle. Moreover, they have abundant free time to choose their leisure activities and pursue their true hobbies. A luxury that majority of adults will not be able to afford.(104 words)

On the other hand, however, there are those who argue for adulthood as the happiest time in one’s life. This group tend to mention the opportunities that only a citizen in their adult years can enjoy. This includes a more preferable socioeconomic status and the respect that one earns as the result or the opportunity of starting a family. Adults tend to have more secure careers that bring about not only higher salaries but also more security and ease of life. Society gives them both the right and support to have family of their own if only they wish to take their lives to the next step. (107 words)

They also need many experts with technical knowledge and as a result university graduates can also stay employed. Secondly, employees can enjoy a higher salary in a large city. Since companies tend to be larger and have more production, they can afford more payment for their staff and their employees have a better situation in general. There is also a higher salary for experts and those with special capabilities. (106 words)

There are more facilities in a big city too. First of all, there is more investment by both government and the private sector. Government always gives the priority to large cities and allocate big budgets to them. As a result, big cities can provide more facilities with a better quality. Investment is very important for both preparation and maintenance of many facilities. Secondly, there is more demand in cities with large populations. This demand means more businesses can be successful and millions of people are ready to pay for good services of different kinds. Thus, residents of large cities can enjoy a variety of services with higher quality. (108 words)
