Sample Band 9 Answer:
The line graph illustrates the number of visits abroad by UK residents and visits to the UK by overseas residents between 1979 and 1999, while the bar chart reveals the most popular destinations for UK travelers.
Overall, the number of UK residents traveling abroad increased significantly, while visits to the UK by foreign residents also rose but at a slower pace. France and Spain were the most popular destinations for UK travelers.
In 1979, around 10 million UK residents traveled abroad, and this figure climbed steadily to approximately 20 million by 1989, before surging to over 50 million in 1999. Conversely, visits to the UK by overseas residents started at just under 10 million in 1979 and experienced gradual growth, reaching about 30 million by the end of the period.
The bar chart shows that France was the top destination, attracting nearly 15 million UK visitors, followed closely by Spain with slightly fewer than 15 million. The USA was a distant third, with approximately 5 million UK tourists, while Greece and Turkey were less popular, receiving around 3 million and 2 million visitors, respectively.
