Sample Band 9 Response:
The table shows the average daily time men and women spend on three types of leisure activities (TV, reading, sport), while the bar chart compares how many minutes per day each gender devotes to four household tasks (cooking/washing, shopping, repair, clothes washing/ironing).
Overall, men spend more time watching TV or listening to the radio and marginally more time on sport, whereas women allocate slightly more time to reading. Regarding household tasks, women tend to engage more in domestic chores like cooking, washing, shopping, and ironing, whereas men focus more on repair work.
From the table, men watch TV, video, or listen to the radio for 137 minutes daily, which is 19 minutes longer than women. Both sexes read for under 20 minutes, at 18 minutes for men and 19 for women. Men also spend 15 minutes on sport, slightly exceeding women’s 11 minutes.
Turning to the bar chart, women devote less than 80 minutes to cooking and washing, compared with just 30 minutes for men. Similarly, women spend roughly 35 minutes on shopping and a bit less amount of time on clothes washing and ironing, whereas men invest only around 25 and 5 minutes respectively. By contrast, men dedicate roughly 20 minutes to repair, which is twice the figure for women, being the only household activity in which the figure for men surpassed that of women.
