The graph illustrates the amount of energy that was consumed in the US from 1980 based on six different fuels with a projection of consumption untill the year 2030.

Petrol and oil were consumed much more than other fuels in 1980, about 35 quadrillion units, which despite some fluctuations surged continuously till 2008 at the level of over 40 quadrillion units and is expected to continue to rise till the end of the period in 2030, peaking at about 50 quadrillion unit.

Coal and natural gas had the consumption of 15 and 20 quadrillion showing an increase up to year 1998 at about 23 quadrillion units. Then, coal consumption showed a steady increase for the next 32 year till 2030, when it is expected to peak at about 30 quadrillion units. Since 1998, however, natural gas showed a slight increase up to 25 quadrillion units before leveling off till 2030.

Nuclear, solar/wind and hydropower had rather small and stable consumption about 3 quadrillion units throughout this period and except nuclear power which is expected to rise about a few units before leveling off at about 5 units, other two are expected to stay at the same level until 2030.

Overall, it seems the increase for each fuel is somehow related to the amount of consumption and fuels with highest consumption are expected to have the highest growth. (227 Words)
