یکی از سریع ترین راه های تقویت لغات برای امتحان های آیلتس و تافل برای زبان آموزانی در که در سطح متوسط و بالاتر از متوسط قرار دارند، تمرکز بر روی فهرست های لغات ضروری و کلیدی، نرم افزارهایی مثل نارسیس ماکزیمم و در نهایت کتاب های لغت مناسب سطح ایشان است. با اینهمه این روش ها برای پیشرفت در زمینه واژگان ضروری برای نمره های بالاتر آیلتس مثل 7 و بالاتر و 100 و بالاتر تافل آنچنان سودمند نیست چرا که دایره لغات مورد نظر در گستره یک کتاب یا فهرست چند صدتایی از واژگان نگنجیده و نیازمند حجم بالاتری از متون برای آشنایی با چندین هزار واژه تازه است.
